Announcement for travellers in Europe
In order to contain the spread of COVID-19, a number of European countries for example, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, and Ukraine, are implementing special restrictions on travel, including by closing off their borders. Serious restrictions may be also encountered by travellers crossing “in transit” through these countries. Current restrictions do not apply to the transport of goods.
Under such circumstances, there is a risk of ending up in a quarantine zone or being forced to observe a 14-day quarantine period abroad. The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges travellers to take heed of all information and instructions provided by local authorities.
Precautionary measures must be taken upon return to Latvia and these can be viewed here: https://spkc.gov.lv/lv/aktualitates/get/nid/787
For further information, see the Foreign Ministry Consular Department’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/celodrosi/ (in Latvian) or call +371 26 33 77 11 .
We would also like to remind you that beginning already on 12 March, the Foreign Ministry has been advising against travelling outside Latvia, except when very urgent as in an emergency, and when a person must travel to return to their country of residence.
Should you need consular assistance, call the emergency 24/7 phone number of the Consular Department: +371 2633 7711 or send an e-mail to palidziba@mfa.gov.lv
